Greg Crawford On Basketball, For January 9th, 2015

Pac-12 attendance--- When it comes to basketball, I have always been an attendance and schedule watcher, this year is no different. Should basketball be alarmed about attendance in the Pac-12, due to the following.

1. In the best basketball arena in the league, Matt Knight, the Ducks men's basketball team so far in 2014-15 is averaging just over 5,100 per game and for the Civil War battle with Oregon State last weekend, only 7,100 showed up, the lowest attendance for a Civil War basketball game in Eugene in the last 21 years.

2. Arizona State, an NCAA team last year is averaging under 5,000 fans so far this basketball season.

3. USC home attendance is under 3,000 per game.

4. Yes, even at UCLA, where earlier this year the Bruins fell 3,000 short of selling out for always popular Gonzaga.

Alarming ? Yes. Surprising? No. West Coast college basketball has never drawn well, much like East Coast football does not do well at the gate.

Terry Stotts--- How about long term contract for Portland Trail Blazer coach Terry Stotts? Yesterday the Blazers promoted Neil Olshey to president of basketball operations and gave him a new four year extension, well earned.

Stotts needs  a contractual pat on the back as well, with the terrific job he has done in Portland, on the floor, off the floor and his in-game adjustments are second to none in a coaches league like the NBA.

Big Game--- In my hometown of Portland, Oregon there is some big games this weekend in the Cascade College Conference and Northwest Conference.

Biggest game of the weekend might be Northwest Christian visiting Concordia, with first place on the line. Score prediction.

Northwest Christian 90 Concordia 93
